Seadrift Lions Donate to The Lady Divas

The Seadrift Lions Club recently made a donation to the D.I.V.A Girl program in Seadrift. D.I.V.A Girl has several programs that are geared towards social & educational, development for girls! The program was founded by Lisa McLean who has had an extensive background in mentoring and working with youth groups.
Lisa and her group take trips to surrounding places in order to learn about and experience the world around us. They recently went to Houston's Museum District for example. They also hold meetings twice weekly with activities including jewelry making and other confidence building excessive. Please check out their web site for more information www.divagirlnow.com.
Adopt a Highway Cleanup

On Saturday June 5th the Seadrift Lions Club participated in their first Adopt a Highway cleanup. That morning several Lions could be seen in bright orange and yellow toting trash bags along highway 185 north of Seadrift. The 2 mile strip was recently adopted by the club in order to show the pride they have for the town and the desire to make it an even better place. With Shrimpfest coming up and the amount of traffic that will be coming to Seadrift, keeping the area clean will show visitors and citizens alike that people care about the community.
After a couple of hours of work and a lot of sweat the club managed to round up nearly 30 bags of trash along with boards, tires, and other debris. A big thank you goes out to the roughly 15 volunteers that showed up to brave the temperatures and other dangers along the highway! The cleanup will be done each quarter by the Seadrift Lions. The club will also be hosting a Blood Drive June 10th from 4-7pm at the First National Bank in Seadrift.
Seadrift Lions Club White Cane Day Successful

| Seadrift Lions spreading awareness for White Cane Week CJ Garriot, Rachel Nicole Enax, and Peggy Gaines |
The Seadrift Lions Club helped to raise awareness for the blind and visually impaired by handing out white canes and information in front of Dick's Food Store in Seadrift on Saturday March 27th. The club raised roughly $200.00 which will go to the Lions International sight projects. Several members turned out to show their support for the event. Many generous citizens of Seadrift helped to make the day a great success. We look forward to many more opportunities to spread awareness and help with this very worthy cause. If you know of someone who could use some assistance with sight related issues please contact Jackson Gordon or any of the officers form more info! Seadrift Boy Scout Troop 106 BBQ and Cake Auction:
The annual Boy Scout Troop 106 BBQ and Cake Auction was held last Saturday March 6th. The Seadrift Lions Club was there to support the scouts in their event. We helped in the serving line as well as in the cake auction. Special thanks to all of those that participated. The troop raised a whopping $10,500.00. This money will send all of the scouts to camp this year as well as help out with other events. Members of the two clubs from Port Lavaca were also there to lend a hand. Mark Daigle of the Port Lavaca Noon Day club did a stellar job as auctioneer. He knows how to make people pay good money for cake! We all enjoyed the event and look forward to many more in the future.
Seadrift Lions Club Charter Night A Huge Success!

"Roar by the Shore"
The Seadrift Lions Club Charter Night was a huge success no matter how you slice the preverbal Charter Cake. All the planning and teamwork that goes into creating an event like a Lions Club Charter celebration was evident Saturday January 30th 2010 near Seadrift, Texas at the DOW Clubhouse. The visiting Lions from all over Texas expressed their excitement as they entered the well decorated facility, and by the nights end, a few even asked if they could join our club.
The festivities started off with a social hour in which Lions were able to mingle and get to know each other. During this time the guests also bid on silent auction items that were donated by community businesses and members. The raffle and silent auction along with monetary donations helped to bring in a great deal of money for the new club. This money will allow the Seadrift Lions to begin their many plans for helping the community.

After the social hour, Steak and Shrimp were served and were enjoyed by all. Guest Speaker, PDG Hal Griffin spoke about the benefits of being a Lion and also about strategies for growing membership in clubs. The Seadrift Lions Club is a prime example of what PDG Hal discussed. The Seadrift Lions are the first club to be chartered in the district using this new approach to improve membership. This method involves putting your feet to the street and approaching potential Lions and explaining what the club is all about and asking them to join right then and there, instead of waiting for the possible new members to show up at meetings. The Seadrift Lions Club is a big part of the reason why District 2-S4 leads all of North America in membership growth.

Certificates were handed out to all of the charter night members in attendance and the acceptance speech was made by club President, Lion Jackson Gordon. The club was then presented with a U.S. Flag flown over the US Capitol building in Washington DC by a representative from Congressman Ron Paul's office. As well as a Texas State flag flown over the Texas Capitol presented on behalf of State Representative Randy Weber. Lion Sylvester Walleck of Edna also presented the new club with pins from his club in Edna.
Silent auction items were then awarded as well as raffle and door prizes. Everyone was extremely pleased with the out come as the club raised nearly $3,000.00. Many of those who attended left singing high praises for the start of what looks to be another fantastic Lions Club.
